Without Vallabhbhai (‘Sardar’) Patel (1875 -1950), the map of post independence India might have looked quite different. Patel was born in Nadiad, Gujarat and died in Bombay soon after completing his arduous task of encouraging the former princely states to become parts of a united India. The statue of Patel shown above stands in the Geetamandir bus station in Ahmedabad.
